DiSC® Profiles Explained
What is DiSC®?
DiSC® is a personal assessment tool used by more than one million people every year to help improve teamwork, communication, and productivity in the workplace.
The DiSC® Profile by Inscape – the leading personal assessment used the world over – by more than 40 million people.
Yes, there is more than one DiSC® Model! The first self-scoring DiSC® Profile was based on the 1928 research of William M. Marston. Over the past 30 years, the Wiley-Inscape DiSC® has gone through several revisions.
How DiSC® Works
DiSC® by Wiley-Inscape is the world’s most popular personality assessment on the market. It has earned that reputation because of its reliability, simplicity, and ease of use -both for the respondent and the administrator.
DiSC® evaluates aspects of your personality, excluding measures of intelligence, aptitude, mental health, or values. DiSC® profiles provide insights into human behavior across different scenarios, such as your reactions to challenges, your ability to influence others, your preferred pace, and your response to rules and procedures. It assesses inclinations and preferences, highlighting patterns of behavior without making judgments about their value or their alignment with specific skills or job classifications. DiSC® serves as a conversational tool rather than a diagnostic instrument.
History of DiSC® Styles
There is nothing new about the study of behavioral styles. For thousands of years, humans have been on a quest to better understand themselves and to better understand our human nature, and explain the differences among people. Personality profile systems have been around since 590 BCE.
William Marston’s Theory
Wiley-Inscape’s DiSC® products began with a theory based on the work of William Moulton Marston, a Harvard psychologist, inventor, and Writer who is also a contemporary of Carl Jung. The findings of his work are found in his book: “The Emotions of Normal People,” published in 1928.
