Teaching people to understand others is what DiSC® Profiles bring to any organization.  And the key to understanding revolves around people’s motivations and needs.

Top of mind questions facing leaders today often relate to the topic of motivation.

How do I motivate my employees in the face of . . . . .

■  A struggling economy
■  More work . . . less pay
■  Fear of staff cutbacks
■  Constant Change
■  Modern day stresses – demands of family, job, society . . .

What are we as employers, leaders, supervisor’s, doing or not doing, that causes employees to operate at less than optimal performance levels?

This frustrating question leads us to perhaps explore the topic of Emotional Intelligence. (EI)   A term, made popular by Daniel Goleman.  He says some interesting things about motivation:

“The fundamental task of leaders is to prime good feelings in those they lead.
That occurs when a leader creates resonance . . .
a reservoir of positivity that frees the best in people.”

He further makes this amazing claim.

At its root, the primal job of leadership is emotional.”

With this, I am reminded a quote by Bob Conklin, the author of Adventures in Attitudes. (AiA)

“The extent to which you give others what they want . . .
will they give you what you want.”

In other words . . .

“The extent to which you meet the emotional needs of employees . . .
will they meet your performance needs.”

If you don’t tend to needs of employees, they won’t tend to the work set before them.

So how does “DiSC® bring out the best in people?”

By understanding the needs and wants of different behavioral styles, managers and leaders can lead with Emotional Intelligence, and tap the motivational energy of people we’re leading.
